Wu De-Chuen, an independent animation director, graduated from the Visual Arts Master’s program at New York University. He creates animations rich in the authenticity of Taiwanese lifestyle, drawing from life experiences. His notable works include “A piece of cake”, “Back to god”, “Unknown Memory”, “Subsurface Flow,” and “The Magical Tracing,” winning awards such as Best Animation at the Golden Horse Awards and Taipei Film Festival, and the Special Award at the Southern Film Festival.
His works are humorous and rustic, often exploring humanistic themes with magical realism, showcasing the charm of Taiwanese storytelling. Inspired by everyday details, he and collaborators Jimming JU and Red HUNG Huei-Jen are exploring VR media, gaining recognition at the Venice Film Festival and France NewImages Festivals. They will continue sharing Taiwan’s unique flavor through new media creation.
Wu De-chuen graduated from NYU. Both his A Piece of Cake and Unknow Memory won Best Animation at Taipei Film Awards in 2010 and 2014, respectively.
